LAST WEEK

Friday night a group of us went to Cherry Pocket. It is a fish camp with good food.

I had the seafood boat which was a whole fried zucchini covered in a delicious seafood sauce. The salad had a yummy cherry dressing.
This was the grooper salad. And that  is how they spelled it.
Gene and Martha.
Back to work on Monday getting the finishing touches done.  Shirley and Martha putting the screens back on, not an easy job.
Joan and Martha cleaned out the cabinets, lined  and organized them. Afterwards they taped them shut so the dust from the construction wouldn't get in.

Kent got off the ladder and power washed the sidewalks. They sure needed it.
Larry and I power washed the stripes on the parking lot so they could be repainted.
I used a brush to paint the handicap sign and blue stripes
Joan and Martha rolled on the white stripes. And no Gary we were not striping in the parking lot.
Outside done! Looking good.
Gene getting the splash molding around the closet floor.
The ladies in their new NOMADS shirts. We had a great covered dish dinner on Tuesday night.
Eric finishing the tile in the boy's bathroom. He sure helped us a lot.
Larry and Gene hanging the doors to the closet.

Hallway and closet finished! What a different it makes.
Girl's bathroom almost done.  the plumber worked around us or we worked around him all morning on Thursday.
Boy's bathroom and we painted the walls and ceilings Thursday afternoon, finishing it just at quitting time. Didn't know we could get three people in that space with paint rollers, brushes, ladder and paint pans!
Even got the doors painted white and rehung.

Janie provided a delicious lunch for us on Thursday. We were really blessed with all the great and different lunches that members of the church provided for us each day.
A big cookie giving us thanks. Yellow for the new building color and blue for Angel Care.
Each of us were given an angel care shirt.

Thursday afternoon we helped unload this truckful of food. It is a once a month food program for the community. Flyers about it are sent home with the middle school students, which is next to this building.
We filled 70 bags, but they aim to fill 100. Anyone could come from the community that is in need of food, and unfortunately they were turning people away at the end of day.
We went back to Ricks Bar-B-Q on Thursday night for our farewell dinner.  Rick treated us last Thursday and invited us back again.  We had our own private room and the food was superb so we agreed to go back.  We wanted to pay but he wouldn't let us, only told us to put a tip in the jar which goes to the Boys and Girls Club.  this is just one example of the giving people we met all during our time working here.
They chop the pork right in front of you for your order.
Larry's spare ribs and pulled pork with 2 sides.
I had pulled pork and a chicken breast. The bake beans were really good also.
We gave Rick a big thank you.  The restaurant is closed on Sunday, but if you are in Winter Haven be sure to stop in and get the best pulled pork around!

INSIDE WORK

This is the bathroom we are using. Why two toilets? The one on the right is the only one that works.
Martha is getting to use all sorts of tools. She used the sawzaw with a chipping blade to remove the floor tile. What a job!
Eric, a member from the church, worked all last week removing all the tile on the wall and floor in the boys bathroom.. We were so glad he did it and we didn't have to.
Gene and Larry worked on getting the bathroom ready to dry wall.
Martha was introduced to mudding.
A closet was to built in the hallway.
Joan , Martha and I got the area painted.Larry framed out a closet.. Gene and Larry hung the drywall and Gene put the shelves together.
Handles and knobs were needed  in the kitchen on the cabinet doors.
The kitchen painted green, the ceiling white and a nice new light. A lot of progress has been made this week.

FINISHING OUTSIDE

This week we worked on the other side of the building, now that Larry and Gene have the windows and doors done.
Before we could paint Gene and Kent caulked around all the windows and doors. I took this picture from on top of my ladder as I was painting all the white trim by the gutter.
We finished the painting Thursday morning.
We all took turns power washing this shed. It was black with dirt and mold, amazing to see it yellow.
Sunday after lunch we went to this great Mexican restaurant.
;
What added to the meal was this mariachi band that came and played.
The letters were painted and the boards they hang on. Putting them back on the board was a little challenging.
We painted the front of the church -twice, and again we had Kent up on that ladder varnishing the cross.
Finished
Martha and Joan getting the back painted. Martha is not too fond of high ladders.
