SEPTEMBER HAPPENINGS

We left on Sept. 9th to go to PA. We had heavy rain around Jacksonville and rain for most of the trip, even around Washington DC on Sunday.

We parked at Circle M for three days to visit family.  Sunday evening Bob and Felecia stopped by and we went out to dinner. Monday Lynda came up and took us to BB's to do some shopping. She left a little early because storms were forecasted. We then went out for dinner with Brian and Dorothy. Tuesday  Ruthann and I went out for lunch and thrift store shopping. Wednesday we moved to Gettysburg Farm Campground and Mystique came over with the grandchildren in the evening and we celebrated the children's birthdays. Averie is 6, Ashtyn will be 8 and Hunter 5. It was way to quick a visit but glad we got to see everyone. It was so fast I never took a picture.

Thursday morning we left to go to Lewisburg, WV  for the NOMADS annual meeting.

Larry was just elected to be the South East jurisdiction representative on the board. He now has the position of being the project coordinator chair.

Larry lead a seminar on how to do a site visit when a new agency request to have NOMADS.

I taught line dancing on Monday evening for part of the entertainment.

It was a good annual meeting and if you want to see all about it I have a it posted on my blog www.hands2serve.blogspot.com

We woke up every morning to dense fog, but the temperature had dropped so on  Friday it was a beautiful day when we left.
Some high fog through the mountains.
We was a beautiful drive.
We made it back to FL Saturday evening.

There was a big line at for gasoline when we pulled into BJ's in Clermont, and another line to get propane. Everyone was rushing to get ready for Hurricane Ian.

Before we left we had purchased an 2022 Equinox Premier, trading in our Highlander. The reason being we couldn't tow our cars because they are hybrids and we can flat tow this car, and we didn't want a third car. The Equinox came in while we were away, so Monday we went and picked it up. The pictures were taken in front of the dentist.  Larry had to have a root canal two days before we left and was getting a crown put on.

Tuesday was spent making sure we had everything brought in that might cause damage during the hurricane. We have a generator so we felt sure we would be fine if we lost power. We made our walk-in closet our safe room in case of a tornado. We were ready.
Wednesday the hurricane came ashore as a category 4 storm, south of Tampa at Pine Island. We started doing disaster rebuild in 2005 at Pine Island from Hurricane Charley when it came on shore there then too. This hurricane was way bigger and caused much more damage. By night fall we had the winds and heavy rain. We never lost power and there was no damage to any of the homes in our development.

The retention pond is very high, but still has a way to go before reaching our house. Flooding has been a big issue from this hurricane. We are very fortunate.
